Big BeltLine News!
Yesterday, December 1, the Atlanta Regional Commission awarded a $4 million grant to create biking and walking paths connecting the future Ponce City Market to the future Atlanta BeltLine. The money will also be used to improve the aesthetics of Ponce de Leon Ave. Our city is getting more beautiful and accessible by the minute!
And there’s more BeltLine news – BeltLine spokesman Ethan Davidson confirmed earlier this week that the first phase of the Eastside trail will be complete this spring. The first phase includes the completion of a concrete path that will connect Freedom Park, Historic Fourth Ward Park and Piedmont Park. The BeltLine team is working on the Eastside trail in conjunction with the PATH Foundation (creators of the beloved Silver Comet, Chastain Park and the Stone Mountain trails) as well as with Trees Atlanta so there’s little doubt this new trail will be a fantastic addition to Intown Atlanta.
But wait, there’s more! Tomorrow, December 3, is the BeltLine Eastside 10K– and there’s still time to participate! You’ll be able to see the Eastside Trail in its infancy and get a feel for the magnitude of the impact the trail and the BeltLine project overall will have on Atlanta’s future. You’ll also be supporting the BeltLine’s development and getting some exercise on what is shaping up to be one heck of a December forecast – 63 degrees and sunny! So far more than 700 participants have registered for the run/walk – but there’s still time to round up your friends. You can register immediately before the race (no later than 9:30 a.m.) for $40. Hope to see you there!
