Can’t-miss Events before and during the Holiday

So, as the holiday season kicks into gear and 2010 begins its last hurrah before drawing to a close, there are a few can't-miss events heading to the intown Atlanta area that you won't want to lose in the holiday shuffle.

  • The Center for Puppetry Arts (1404 Spring Street) performs a puppet theatre version of the beloved holiday TV special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer through January 2nd. Rather than doing an adaptation, the team worked hard to replicate each character's appearance and voice so that the audience sees holiday classic performed live exactly as intended. Reviews so far have been great, so get your tickets soon!
  • You have until January 9th to see the exhibition of the late work of influential Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí at the High Museum of Art (1280 Peachtree Street). The exhibit has been called "shattering" by the New York Times and "well worth the trip to Atlanta." Fortunately, we don't have to travel far at all to come see the more than 40 paintings, plus film, sculptures and photographs that make up the collection.
  • Cirque du Soleil's Ovo plays at Atlantic Station through January 2nd and is a celebration of the mysterious and strange world of insects. The show displays all the athleticism and acrobatics that the Montreal-based quasi-circus troupe has become known for, but has toned some of the more surreal aspects down in favor of a funny and joyful show that has been getting raves across Atlanta. Catch it before the egg hatches!
  • And if you're in the mood for something completely different, highly influential hip-hop group the Wu-Tang Clan has reconvened and is headed to Center Stage (1374 West Peachtree) on December 16th. Tickets are still available for this rare chance to see the Clan, who have been called by many the greatest hip-hop group of all time.

Of course, this is only a taste of the many exciting things happening in the downtown heart of the capital of the Empire State of the South. Stay tuned for more updates on events, news, and reviews.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving from all of us at ATL Intown Living!
