Downtown Atlanta Round-Up
It's time once again for us to provide a round-up of the biggest news and events happening around downtown Atlanta, Grant Park, the Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, Candler Park, Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown, Sweet Auburn, Edgewood, and the rest of intown:
- Today, September 30, is the end of the "Films That Matter" series covering human rights themes around town. The final film in the series is the Tom Hanks/Denzel Washington Oscar-winning classic Philadelphia, playing in Historic Fourth Ward Park in collaboration with the AIDS Memorial Quilt, in solemn commemoration of the past 30 years of the AIDS epidemic.
- If you're in the mood for something a little different, also tonight there is this year's FLUX celebration, an evening of interactive, experimental art in Castleberry Hill near downtown Atlanta. We hear that this year it's a must-see event!
- Mayor Kasim Reed has intimated that he'd like to see Underground Atlanta turn into an arts district. We couldn't agree more.
- This Saturday, October 1 from 5 PM to 10 PM, Melrose & McQueen Salon in Inman Park will be hosting the {Reclaimed} Craft and Antique Show, showcasing some gorgeous and unusual repurposed vintage finds in a cozy boutique environment. Come by and grab a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork and some free drinks.
- Cox Enterprises announced this week that the James M. Cox Foundation, the company's charitable arm, is pledging a $500,000 gift to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights being built in downtown Atlanta. The Center will be located near the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium in the heart of downtown, a stone's throw from the Pencil Factory Flats & Shops. Very exciting.
- P'cheen has added fried chicken to their menu. Go get some. That is all.
