Farmer’s Market
Last week's glorious peaches
This past weekend, I hit up the Grant Park Farmer's Market like I do most Sundays to get my fresh, locally-grown produce for the week. It turns out that this Sunday, July 31, will be the last day that Pearson Farms will be selling their unbelievably lusciously amazing Georgia peaches for the season. I am a native-born Atlantan and have been eating local peaches all my life, and these have been the absolute best I've ever eaten. In fact, they're so good that apparently 101 cases of them (that's 1.34 tons!) were sold last weekend. If you haven't had any of these juicy and sweet treasures yet this season, I highly suggest you hustle down to the market on Sunday and get yourself a bag before it's too late. I know I'll be there!
If you don't care for peaches, at 11:30 AM Laura Martin, author of the Green Market Baking Book, will be doing a baking demo inspired by the seasonal foods of the Grant Park Farmer's Market. The event page is here for more information. Every week in the amphitheater behind the fountain, chefs and specialists hold amazing demos using fresh, local ingredients.
Delicious Sungold tomatoes
Products sold at the Grant Park Farmer's Market include bread from H&F Bread Company and bloody mary mix from H&F Bottleshop (suppliers of the nationally famous Holeman & Finch Public House), artisan cheeses and charcuterie, salsas, crepes, honey, and more. If you're just interested in produce, right now farmers from around the metro Atlanta area are selling blueberries, figs, raw pet milk, cucumbers, summer squashes, okra, tomatoes, and other produce. Last week, I picked up some Sungold cherry tomatoes, which are sweet enough to eat alone like grapes. Highly recommended!
We believe strongly in the mission of Grant Park Farmer's Market and other farmer-oriented markets around intown Atlanta: to bring fresh, healthy, local, and sustainable produce and other foods affordably to all residents of the city of Atlanta. The Market runs from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM every Sunday through November at 600 Cherokee Ave in Grant Park.
