Fighting Hunger with the Atlanta Community Food Bank

The recession has hit many families around the city hard, which makes it even more important to ensure that no Atlantan goes hungry. Right now at the Pencil Factory Flats & Shops, we’re working with the Atlanta Community Food Bank as part of their initiative for Hunger Action Month. We’re collecting canned goods and other nonperishable food items to donate to the food bank to help fight hunger. Drop-off bins are available in the office, and we also are taking monetary donations to the food bank.

Since 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank has supplied more than 700 nonprofit and charitable agencies around metro Atlanta and North Georgia with food and groceries. The food bank estimates that it’s responsible for nearly two million pounds of food and other donated grocery items each month reaching these facilities and the hungry families they help to supply.

According to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the items they need the most are:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned tuna
  • Canned beans
  • Canned soups, stews, and pastas
  • 100% fruit juice
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Macaroni and cheese boxed dinners
  • Whole grain, low-sugar cereals

We’ll be taking donations all month, so please come by the Pencil Factory office with your contribution today, and together we can help make sure that nobody in Atlanta goes hungry this fall.
