More Progress on Atlanta Street Food, Plus Food Trucks in Inman Park

We've covered the debate over street food in Atlanta once or twice before. Though food served from trucks, carts, otherwise non-traditional establishments has become very popular around the country (with our fair city being no exception), Atlanta has had some unusual issues with getting our street food scene off the ground, the result of some confusing regulations. But it looks like things might get sorted by...we're sure you can guess...everybody's favorite city councilman Kwanza Hall!

On Monday, June 20, Councilman Hall introduced two key pieces of legislation for the downtown Atlanta and Old Fourth Ward areas: one would lengthen bar hours around the city until 4 AM (which looks to have already clashed with the plans of other councilmembers, so we'll wait and see on that one), and the other would remove many of the restrictions that clash with food trucks setting up shop, like distance requirements, hours (5 AM to 2 AM sounds pretty fantastic!), etc. that would allow the food trucks and carts to operate lawfully on private property around the city of Atlanta. Not quite the sidewalk taco vendors of Los Angeles, but we'll take what we can get.

Follow the news at the Atlanta Street Food Coalition, who you can also follow on Twitter at @atlstreetfood (a great way to find out where the trucks are serving minute to minute!

In the neighborhood, we've noticed that the Inman Park Stove Works at 112 Krog (home of Rathbun's and Krog Bar, of course!) hosts some street food vendors between 11 AM and 2 PM on Wednesdays, just a hop skip and jump away from Grant Park, Reynoldstown, and the Old Fourth Ward.
