News across Atlanta
It's time once again for our round-up of the development, events, trend, and other news across downtown Atlanta, Grant Park, the Old Fourth Ward, Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown, and the rest of the city...
- Who would have thought? As you may know, the old Macy's department store at 200 Peachtree Street downtown (or, for those of us who grew up in Atlanta, the old Rich's) was renovated into a high-end event space (covered by this blog here). But not only is 200 Peachtree a great place for weddings and parties, now it's hosting boxing matches! The promoter booking the events is looking to take advantage of the intimate and elegant feel of the space, and it seems to be working...the first match sold out all 1100 seats!
- According to gossip and un-named sources, Little's Grocery in Cabbagetown, which closed a while back, may just be re-opening this spring. Alongside decadent comfort foods like burgers and chili, the market may also sell grocery items, beer, and wine.
- Though the weather's been persnickety lately, when it warms up (and dries up), you might want to head down to Grant Park to visit Zoo Atlanta. Well, if you belong to the library system of Georgia, you might want to first check out and watch the DVD "Zoo Atlanta Wild Explorer: History of Zoo Atlanta." Doing this will get you a receipt for a free family pass to the zoo, valued at $80. Announcement and details here.
- Our favorite quickie spa Facebar Skin Parlor is offering $5 off their already-affordable "Make it Shine" facial and peel treatment for their Facebook fans. Check it!
- And finally, a sweet story from the AJC about how Mayor Reed is making good on his promise to turn the city's closed rec centers in "Centers of Hope." Gosh, we love that guy!
