Sign up for the Thanksgiving Day Atlanta Half Marathon!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and in these parts that means it’s time for the Atlanta Half Marathon!   The idea of running on Thanksgiving Day might seem counterintuitive (after all, isn’t this the day we pull out our elastic pants and feast on turkey and sweet potato casserole while watching football on the couch?)   Yes!  And you can still do all of that, but why not start the day off with an energizing run through downtown Atlanta and earn that pecan pie?

The run starts and finishes on Capital Ave. - just outside of Turner Field – bright and early at 7:30 am on November 24.  MARTA will be providing service beginning at 5 a.m. on the day of the race to make it easy for runners to reach the starting line.   Just exit the train at the Georgia State station and take a 15 minute warm up walk to the marathon start.

The marathon route takes runners through some of Intown Atlanta’s unique landmarks including Oakland Cemetery near the Pencil Factory Flats & Shops, Centennial Olympic Park, Atlantic Station, the Capitol Building and Piedmont Park.

Not ready to run a full 13.1 miles?   No problem.  You can take part in the 5K.   Even the little ones can participate in the Mashed Potato Mile (ages 7-12) and the Gravy Gallop (ages 6 and under).   And if running on Thanksgiving isn’t your thing at all, you can sign up to volunteer or just head downtown to cheer on the runners and enjoy the all our city has to offer.

If you do run, you shouldn't feel the least bit guilty about enjoying a powdered sugar dusted beignet at The Beignet Connection in celebration of your accomplishment.
