So what’s all this buzz about Boulevard?
As you may have heard, Atlanta City Councilman, Kwanza Hall, has declared 2012 “The Year of Boulevard,” but what exactly does that mean? In short, it’s a mulit-pronged plan to continue the revitalization and progress already happening in the Old Fourth Ward. The area made great strides in 2011 and the momentum will continue in 2012.
“Thanks to the Old Fourth Ward planning process of a few years ago, we have been able to rally residents around a shared vision of the neighborhood’s future,” said Hall. “2011 was a banner year for our priorities, with the sale of City Hall East, the opening of Historic Fourth Ward Park, and the arrival of hundreds of new neighbors in rental units adjacent to the park. In 2012, we are rededicating ourselves to the Old Fourth Ward with a focus on another area identified as a priority in the plan: the greater Boulevard corridor.”
Since Boulevard links several Intown Atlanta neighborhoods including the Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, Virginia-Highland, Cabbagetown, Grant Park and Midtown, its redevelopment is critical to the continuing evolution of the city. Though change will not happen overnight, Hall’s declaration and the steps that are already underway represent the biggest push the area has ever seen. And the timing, in conjunction with the success of Historic Fourth Ward Park, the beginnings of Ponce City Marketand the progress on the BeltLine– all projects doubted by naysayers, has the community feeling hopeful about success here as well. We at ATLIntownLiving feel confident the area will flourish. With so many thriving developments nearby including The Shops at Highland Walk and the N. Highland Steel neighborhood, there’s no reason Atlanta can’t make this area a success story as well. Stay tuned…
